Papa Saverio’s is the champion of this year’s Palatine Pizza Showdown.
Voters at the Oct. 22 contest gave the top prize for Papa Saverio’s sausage pizza. Pedro’s Pizza earned the runner-up award for the restaurant’s cheese pizza.
About 125 people attended this year’s showdown, which earned more than $2,000 for the chapter through admission, the silent auction, and three raffles. About 30 Jaycees–including several from the Schaumburg Jaycees–sliced and served pizzas, sold raffle tickets, collected admission, emceed, and recruited prospective members.
All attendees got votes in six categories including best overall. They said Toni Rome’s had the best crust, Pedro’s had the best cheese pizza, Magico had the best veggie pizza, Papa Saverio’s had the best specialty pizza. Artistic Cuisine received the most votes for the single-topping meat pizza even though Papa Saverio’s entry from the same category won best overall.
Silent auction items were donated by local organizations and individuals, including D’Vine Wine, Car-X, Mariano’s, Lou Malnati’s, Palatine Fire Department, Buehler YMCA, Castle Chiropractic, Dairy Queen, Janet Leigh, Pat De Marco, and the Palatine Jaycees.
