As part of their Healthy Family Initiative, the Palatine Jaycees are hosting a Family Field Day on August 8th at Ost Field (250 E. Wood St) from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Come out to enjoy a day of family fitness and nutrition education. Learn fun and economical ways to keep local families fit and active. Clinics will be set up with multiple stations demonstrating different physical activities. Give-a-ways and prizes will be available, including a chance to win Bears tickets.

“We are excited to promote the Healthy Family Iniative through this fun event. This Family Field Day is a fun way for the entire family to learn new ways to economically work together to stay healthy.” said Joe Skibbly, project chair.”We are excited to team up with not only with the Palatine Park District, but with other area businesses, sport clubs and non-profits to make this event possible.” Sponsors for the event include Gasperini Insurance Agency, Flux Life, Palatine Rugby Club, Northwest Community Health, Palatine Opportunity Center, Crossfit Pally and Explosive Speed Training.

The goal of the Palatine Jaycees’ Healthy Family Initiative is to provide support to Palatine families in educating them in development of healthy nutritional and activity habits through creation of events focused on nutrition and physical activity. The initiative, developed by the chapter’s Active Citizen Framework Committee, researched issues currently facing Palatine residents. The committee learned that obesity, particularly among children and teens, is not only a national “hot topic,” but also affects families in Palatine. Good health is the foundation of a successful community and we are working with individuals from the Palatine Park District, Northwest Community Health Care System, School District, sports clubs, and community outreach organizations.

Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct numerous programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the Chapter and community donations.  Included in these projects are the Fourth of July Festival (Hometown Fest), Christmas tree sales, Best Pizza Contest and others, which benefit the community directly and help raise money.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has close to 100 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.

The Palatine Chapter holds their monthly general meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.  For further information on the Palatine Jaycees, membership or any of their sponsored events visit their web site at www.palatinejaycees.org, email them at info@palatinejaycees.org or call them at 847-604-0288.
