Jaycees Sponsor Shopping For Needy Families

The Palatine Jaycees made a difference in 10 families’ lives this Holiday season Saturday December 10th with a morning shopping spree at the Palatine Wal-mart located at 1555 North Rand Road.

The Jaycees have been working with several agencies in the community to select 10 needy families that live in Palatine.  Each family received a $500 gift card to be used that morning to purchase gifts, food or for any other specific need. At the end of the morning, each of the families also received a gift card for lunch at Subway.

According to Ashley Soriano, one of the Jaycee co-chairs, the Jaycees worked with The Bridge Youth & Family Services, Children’s Home & Aid, Palatine Opportunity Center, Palatine Township Senior Center and WINGS, Women In Need Growing Stronger, to select the families.  The decision on which families were chosen was based on the recommendations of the agencies.

“I have never been so moved in my life,” said Danielle Green, Jaycee project co-chair.  “The Palatine Jaycees have always been involved in many community projects.  This project and being around the Holidays was something special.”
