2016 Scholarship Application

Apply for the Palatine Jaycees Leadership Scholarship

The Palatine Jaycees are seeking applicants to compete for at least three $1500.00 scholarships that will be presented at their June 16th general meeting at the American Legion Hall at 122 West Palatine Road in Palatine as part of their annual leadership scholarship program.

“The Jaycees are a leadership training organization and we want to reward high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities,” said Ellen Dugosh, this year’s scholarship chair.  “Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education and reside in either 60067 or 60074 zip codes. In addition to the scholarship itself, we will be honoring the winners during our annual Fourth of July Festival. The winners will be invited to participate in the Fourth of July parade.”

Applications can be obtained by clicking here to download it, by email at scholarships@palatinejaycees.org or by calling 847-604-0288.  Applications are also available from guidance counselors at Fremd, Palatine and St. Viator High Schools.  Mailed entries must be received by May 15th at Palatine Jaycees Scholarship Committee, Post Office Box 1517, Palatine, IL 60078-1517.  Applications may be dropped off in person on April 21st during the Jaycee monthly meeting between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM at the American Legion Hall at 122 West Palatine Road in Palatine.

In order to apply, applicants must write a two-page essay about their leadership skills within the community, church and/or school.  A committee of Jaycees will select the most outstanding applicants based on their accomplishments and contributions within their community.  “We are always amazed at the accomplishments of some of these high school seniors and find selecting a winner a difficult task,” said Dugosh.

Offering scholarships to high school seniors is just one of the ways the Jaycees give back to the community. Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct numerous programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the Chapter and community donations.  Included in these projects are the Fourth of July Festival (Hometown Fest), Christmas tree sales, Best Pizza Contest and others, which benefit the community directly and help raise money.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has over 100 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.

The Palatine Chapter holds their monthly general meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.  For further information on the Palatine Jaycees, membership or any of their sponsored events visit their web site at www.palatinejaycees.org, email them at info@palatinejaycees.org or call them at 847-604-0288.
