Palatine Jaycees Raise Funds for Camp New Hope with Annual Regifters’ Auction

The Palatine Jaycees held its Annual Regifters’ Auction at the January 15, 2015 General Meeting. All proceeds are donated to Camp New Hope, a year-round recreational experience for those aged eight and above with developmental and physical disabilities, located in southern Illinois.

Each year, the Palatine Jaycees ask members to bring gifts they may have received over the holidays and throughout the year that do not fit their décor, may not be their size or may not be of use. These items are then auctioned off to other chapter members. This event is an enjoyable and entertaining way to raise funds for Camp New Hope.

“We had an exciting event this year – we raised over $550.00 by auctioning 31 donated item. We even had a few items ignite heated bidding wars among friends,” said Steve Poduska, the project chair. Coupled with a $200 donation from the chapter itself, the money raised will pay for a camper to attend the Camp, plus provide funds for other needs at the facility. Palatine Jaycees and chapters throughout the state work together each year to raise funds, donating thousands of dollars to help children with disabilities enjoy an overnight camp experience.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of the nearly 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has nearly 100 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community. In Palatine, the Jaycees conduct 50-60 projects each year including Christmas tree sales, a local art fair and the Fourth of July celebration.

The Palatine Chapter holds its monthly General Meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.
