The Palatine Jaycees are hosting a free STEM Fair on Thursday, November 8 at Winston Campus (900 E Palatine Rd in Palatine), from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for students and family members at Winston Elementary, Virginia Lake, Lake Louise and Jane Addams elementary schools.

The Jaycees will again partner with Northern Illinois University to coordinate over 70 learning stations for kindergarten through 6th grade students. These activities promote learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.). The fair is expanding this year to include area businesses and partners, with stations and activities hosted by STEM for Kids, Palatine Public Library, Mathnasium and Snapology.

“The STEM Fair is a fun way for the entire family to learn about energy, waves, light and optics, lasers, electricity and more though demonstrations and hands-on activities,” said Lindsay Schubel Nagle, project chair, District 15 alumnus and Material Science Engineer. “We are delighted to team up with area businesses and NIU to promote STEM in our grade schools and hope to inspire the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers.”

“Since our first event in 2015, we have continued to grow the STEM Fair. John Crane, a worldwide engineering solutions leader with local sites in Morton Grove, Crystal Lake and headquartered in downtown Chicago, gave a generous sponsorship again this year to help keep this event free and enabled us to again invite all four of Winston Campus Junior High’s feeder schools. We will be raffling off door prizes to participating students, including many STEM-related experiments, games and an Amazon Kindle for each school. There will also be an awesome liquid nitrogen floor demonstration at 7:00 p.m.,” said Schubel Nagle.

Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct numerous programs to serve the Palatine area and raise money to support community grants, scholarships, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, fireworks and entertainment for the Fourth of July Hometown Fest celebration, holiday giving programs and more.
