ABOUT THE EVENT

The Palatine Jaycees host an annual contest to award the “Best Pizza in Palatine” title to a local pizzeria. The event raises money to support the chapter, which provides leadership training and other skill development programs to its members, who run successful community events, such as the Hometown Fest Fourth of July festival, the annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids, the Holiday Shopping Spree for needy families, and scores of other projects.

Pizza restaurants that wish to participate in the contest donate their pies to be judged in categories such as cheese, meat, vegetarian, and specialty. Samples of each pizza are served on numbered plates for voting to ensure the pizzas are judged on their taste alone.

The contest will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m. at Durty Nellie’s, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. Event admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 years old, and free for kids under 6 years old. A cash bar is available. The event will take place during the broadcast of the Chicago Bears football game against the Carolina Panthers on Durty Nellie’s big screen. Participants can vote for their favorite pizza in each category, and the winners, as well as the best overall, will be announced at the end of the Bears game. A silent auction of items donated by local businesses and a “booze basket” raffle add to the fun.

How to enter

Pizza restaurants interested in entering the contest must service the Palatine area.
